The Ramadan Special: Dubai’s Top 7 Activities For The Season

The Holy month of Ramadan is often observed as a period of religious discipline and cultural norm, by Muslims all around the world, especially in the Middle East. The city of Dubai is no stranger to that commitment, however it is also aware of its own stature as a global populous for tourists, visitors and residents alike. Hence, tourists while holidaying in Dubai, during Ramadan, will be able to enjoy a wide range of cultural, community, and family-oriented events that highlight the heritage of Dubai and the rest of the Emirates. So grab a pen and a notepad, (or your phone), and take down the list of activities that are taking place this Ramadan.

1.Let The Games Begin!

In our previous edition of InfoBlogs, we had written about Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex’s 5 Km obstacle course (The Night Challenge), taking place on May 9’th and May 16’th. Aside from this, on May 16, the Desert Road Runner club is arranging for an Iftar Challenge – a 5 Km run (and 2 Km run for junior club members) at Mushrif Park. Of course, the highlight is the NAS Sports Tournament, taking place at The NAS Sports Complex on May 17. This will be the 7’th year of the competition and the event will feature trained athletes compete again a range of sporting events such as running, volleyball, basketball and paddle, as well as the annual wheelchair basketball tournament for People of Determination.

2.For Something Unique & Special, Try The Arte Market

Taking place at the Mercato Mall on May 17, the Arte Market is a great place to buy customized jewellery and trinkets, home décor items, and fashion accessories. Over 150 artisans are expected to participate in this event to showcase their talent and skills, as well as to flaunt their creative and entrepreneurial spirit!

3.The UAE Cultural Experience

Known as ‘Open Doors, Open Minds’, this is the ultimate cultural experience aimed at providing an interactive opportunity to know more about Ramadan, as well as learn about the UAE’s history and culture. Held in the courtyard of the Wind Tower House in the heart of the Al Fahidi Historic District of Bur Dubai, visitors can take part in a number of activities, including Arabic classes, heritage tours, and guided mosque visits at the Sheikh Mohammed Center.

4.Update Your Wardrobe, The Trunk Show Is Back!

Set to be held on May 17 at the Sheraton Gran Hotel (on Sheikh Zayed Road), the 10th edition of the Ramadan Trunk Show will also feature Ladyz Fusion. The show will give new visitors and returning visitors a chance to check out the latest in fashion, jewellery, and style, at a bargain. So if you have plans for Eid, then go ahead and update your wardrobe for the holidays.

5.Let’s Go to The Mall!

The malls in Dubai are always teeming with activities and entertainment throughout the year. The month of Ramadan brings forth a whole set of new activities such as; the calligraphy art displays at the Dubai Mall, the virtual reality programs that showcase real experiences of refugees and their homes at the Ibn Battuta Mall, the Ramadan Night Market at Al Seef, and the Beach (opposite JBR) will offer special sunset yoga sessions, along with arts and crafts display.

6.Let’s Get Creative

The world’s leading educator in creative media industries – SAE – will host not just one, but four media camps for kids aged 9-14 during the month of Ramadan. The subjects covered will range from basic tools and techniques of robotics, photography, animation and programming. Participating students will receive a certificate of completion at the end of each course, which is priced at Dhs. 1500/head. These camps will be held at SAE’s Dubai campus, located at Dubai Knowledge Park
